The Klaxon Twist power assist unit is designed to help people who use manual wheelchairs. The Klaxon Twist is a portable, battery powered accessory that attaches to manual chairs. Etac - the manufacturer of this product - specifies this power assist device as follows.

The Klaxon Twist is made for people who use a manually propelled wheelchair. The Twist's performance is automatically adjusted by control circuitry which infers the desired movement (similar; in principle, to some self-propelled vacuum cleaners). The drive motor power rating is 750 Watts (746 Watts is equivalent to one horsepower). Additionally, the Klaxon Twist is compatible only with wheelchairs exhibiting:

• Seat Width (left-to-right) = From 12 inches minimum To 20 inches maximum
• Rear Wheel Diameter = 22, 24, 25, or 26 inches

Both Rigid and folding wheelchair frames can be used with the Klaxon Twist. In both cases an adapter bar is required. The adapter bar for folding-frame chairs is different than the adapter bar for rigid-frame chairs.
